Bus service departures to Guayaquil, Babahoyo, Machala, Salinas and Santa Elena
Buses to the Southern Coast leave from Quito's Quitumbe terminal and also from major cities elsewhere in Ecuador. Departures to Guayaquil leave almost constantly from any of these terminals. Flota Imbabura, Transportes Ecuador, Trans Esmeraldas, Panamericana, and Occidental cover most of the southern coast and Reina del Camino runs buses to Quevedo. If leaving from Quito and if you do not want to go all the way to Quitumbe, Transportes Ecuador, Trans Esmeraldas and Panamericana have departures every other hour to Guayaquil from their own stations in the Mariscal neighbourhood of Quito. However, from 2011, these bus terminasl will not be allowed to remain in the Mariscal, so from then onward, all trips will depart from Quitumbe in the south.
Guayaquil's bus terminal is quite new, and easily accessible from the center by taxi. It has connections to nearly every city in Ecuador, from the Coast to the Amazon rainforest capital and small towns.
Car rental in Guayaquil, Babahoyo, Machala, Salinas and Santa Elena
Guayaquil has more car rental agencies than any other city in Ecuador. It is very easy to find a vehicle to rent to explore the beaches, forests and villages of the southern coast region. Prices range from $30-120 per day, depending on what sort of car you rent. If you are going to be visiting very rural areas, you are best off with a 4-wheel drive vehicle. International chains Avis and Budget have offices at the Guayaquil airport and downtown, while local chains Localiza, Gruvi, CarMax and others operate in the city. Budget Rent-a-Car has an office in Machala's Hotel Oro Verde, if you would like to rent a vehicle there, rather than Guayaquil.
