Requirements for retired foreign volunteer teachers (abroad or currently living in Ecuador):
- To be an English native speaker
- To hold a degree in Education (TESOL/TEFL or equivalent) and/or be willing to get involved in education
- To be retired
- To be able to stay in Ecuador at least a year teaching in public schools
- To use the tourism contents prepared by the English team of the Ministry of Education in their classes
The retired foreign volunteer teachers will have the following responsibilities:
- To attend a briefing course in Quito prior teaching.
- To be in contact with the schools and their authorities in Puerto Lopez, Ambato and Puyo and the CRADLE provincial coordinators from those places.
- To teach 20 class-hours per week (two hours in each 10th grade class weekly)
- To report monthly on the students’ academic progress in specific formats provided by the English team of the Ministry of Education.
- To suggest and apply strategies to improve the students’ achievement, if needed.
- To work together with the Ecuadorian teachers of English during the class time and on an end of course presentation about the students’ projects.
- To keep informed about main tourist places and their attractions located in different regions of Ecuador.
