In the Amazon region, you can ride river banks, and the Coast has sandy beaches to traverse as well as challenging dirt and mud tracks.
The following kinds of motorcycling are practiced in Ecuador: motocross, hare scramble, enduro, speed racing, supercross, supermoto, motorcycle tourism and trials. There are a number of different tracks in the country; the most demanding are for supercross, speed racing and motocross. These tracks are designed properly for the different sports.

Maintaining and servicing motorcycles is easiest in urban areas; rural Ecuador lacks infrastructure and presents a challenge to touring motorcyclists. Ecuador has two octane ratings for its gas: extra (82 octane) and super (92). Gas is sold by the gallon and costs about $1.50 for extra and $2 for Super. Super is rare in rural areas as are gas stations. Bring tools and spare parts with you if you are not traveling with a motorcycle tour company.
Renting a motorcycle in Ecuador is not common; however, Quito and Baños are the easiest places to rent a motorcycle. Renting a 250cc Enduro-type motorcycle costs around $10 an hour or $40 for the day. Shipping a motorcycle to Ecuador is expensive and not recommended unless you are planning a multi-country or cross-continental trip. If planning on entering Ecuador by motorcycle, carry the proper documentation. International Driver's Licenses are recommended but not required. A driver's license from your home state and passport are sufficient documentation. It is recommended to carry all the proper documentation to avoid any hassle when encountering military and police checkpoints.
Be aware that many roads are in poor condition. Road hazards include potholes, blind corners, stopped cars, livestock and roadblocks. Signage is poor and not always obeyed; drivers rarely use turn signals and often ignore traffic lights. Traffic travels in both directions on the Pan-American Highway's middle passing lane, so be extremely careful when overtaking other vehicles.
