Between January and July of this year 904.249 foreign tourists came to Ecuador, which represents an increase of 14% compared to the same period in 2013. The Ministry of Tourism hopes that in August the arrival of one million tourists will be exceeded, a figure that was registered last year in October.

Colombia continues to occupy the first place as origin market, followed by The United States, Peru, Venezuela, Spain, Argentina, Canada, Germany, Cuba, United Kingdom, Mexico, France and Brazil. Only in this first semester Argentina had a growth of 25%, United Kingdom of 18%, and the United States of 6,8%.

In the same period, between January and July of this year, 44% registered tourists entered the country by Mariscal Sucre new International airport in Quito and 23% registered tourists entered by the Jose Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport in Guayaquil. By land, it was registered that 17% of tourists entered by the province of Carchi; 12% entered by the province of El Oro; 1% through the province of Loja, and 4% by other entries.

The objective of the Ministry of Tourism is that in December of this year, Ecuador will receive around 1, 5 million tourists, 350.000 more than in 2013 when 1’364,057 foreign tourists came.
