Presenting a growth of 14% compared to the same period in 2013, 1’009.665 foreign tourists arrived to Ecuador between January 1st and August 25, 2014. These numbers where reached when adding up the 154,220 foreigners that arrived between August 1st and the 24th of this year.

 

Colombia leads as a tourist sending market with 251,124 tourists, followed by the United States with 184,540, Peru with 112,801, Venezuela with 60,702, Spain with 44,531, Argentina with 41,294, Chile with 29,989, Canada with 22,695, Germany with 21,858 and Cuba with 20,606.

 

The markets that have had more growth in the number of tourists they send between January and August 2014 are: Mexico with 24,4%, Argentina with 24%, Canada with 22%, Germany with 21%, Peru with 20%, United Kingdom with 17%, Brazil with 13%, Colombia with 10%, Italy with 9%, Spain with 7%, and the United States and Chile with 6%.

 

For December 2014, the Ministry of Tourism expects to achieve the registry of 1 million 500 thousand tourists. This growth is reflected also on the increase of 28% of Foreign exchange earnings from Tourism achieved on the first trimester of 2014, in comparison to the same period in 2013.

 

Furthermore, Yahoo Travel published a study named “The Hot List of World’s 10 Top Countries”, made by Virtuoso (a network of luxury travel consultants and suppliers), in which Ecuador is located amongst the top 10 countries that have experienced the biggest growth in tourism year after year.

 

Ecuador is on 8th place in this list, which highlights the investment in tourism of over 600 million dollars made by the country; as well as the construction of Quito’s new International Airport and the increase in interest of traveling to places like the Galapagos Islands.
