The Galapagos Marine Reserve has an area equivalent to half of the Earth‘s surface of Ecuador, the second largest in the world. They can be found species from different parts of the Pacific Ocean waters. The visit of Galapagos ecosystems has become the main economic activity of the island. An endless number of visitors reach the Galapagos each year and not only tourists but also marine birds, wolves and other species that arrive by the abundant plankton.

The Galapagos’ Marine reserve which measures 133,000 square kilometers is the 2nd biggest Marine reserve in the world. The sea biodiversity contained in these waters has 2800 species of which a 25 percent are endemic species.

Accesibility

Access to the Marine reserve is restricted to touristic ships that arrive from Ecuador’s mainland or other countries. To visit the reserve a person must take a navigable cruise tour that departs from Puerto Ayora or Puerto Baquerizo Moreno.
