Who can apply?

Article 64. A temporary residence visa will be granted to foreigners to work remotely (they may have their own business or work for one or more companies abroad) carrying out professional, or service activities, remotely, digitally, or telecommuting.

 

Additionally, the foreign applicant must meet the following criteria:

Requirements:

Demonstrate income sources earned in the last 3 months totaling a minimum of $1,275 USD pcm, or a total of $15,300 earned over the course of the a past year. The foreign person must attach copies of their international account statements where said income is reflected.

Attach documents that demonstrate that the visa applicant works or provides services for an employer, client or foreign company, domiciled abroad, to carry out autonomous or dependent professional activities remotely, digitally or teleworking.

Anyone who presents documentation that proves that they are the owner of a business or company registered and domiciled abroad may also apply for this visa.

Nationals of the countries on the list drawn up by the Ministry of Tourism may apply for this visa.

Steps for obtaining a Nomad Visa

  • Visit the Virtual Consulate website here: https://www.consuladovirtual.gob.ec
  • Register as a new user by clicking under the "Registration of other Nationalities" section and then submit the requested information.
  • Check your email for a temporary password generated by the system.
  • Return to the Virtual Consulate website with the username (email) and temporary password.
  • Change the password to a new one.

  • Enter with your username and password in the Virtual Consulate website here: https://www.consuladovirtual.gob.ec
  • Select the option "Request your Consular Procedures".
  • Click on the "Visa Application" section.
  • Fill in the requested information.
  • Upload the requested supporting documentation.
  • Submit the request.

  • Once you have received by email the confirmation that your application has been reviewed, login with your username and password to the following website: https://www.consuladovirtual.gob.ec
  • Select the option "Consulate Notices"
  • Select your application and follow the steps on the platform to make the payment of the visa appointment (Payment options available: deposit, bank transfer, or credit card). 

If it is a deposit or bank transfer, scan the receipt and upload it to the system.

  • Once you have received by email the confirmation that your payment is confirmed, return to the Virtual Consulate website here: https://www.consuladovirtual.gob.ec
  • Select the "Consulate Notices" option.
  • Select your application and then choose the day and time of the appointment.

On the day of the appointment, a virtual interview will be held with a consular representative. They may request you to send digitally additional information before approval for your visa payment.

  • Return to the Virtual Consulate website here. https://www.consuladovirtual.gob.ec
  • Select the "Consulate Notices" option.
  • Select your application and follow the steps on the platform to make the payment of the visa (Payment options available: deposit, bank transfer, or credit card).

If it is a deposit or bank transfer, scan the receipt and upload it to the system.

  • Once the Consulate confirms the payment of the visa, you will receive an e-mail with an attached PDF file, which corresponds to the electronic visa.
  • You can print it if you wish. Make sure that you save it as well in a safe location as this will not be re-issued.

  • From the date of issuance of the visa, you will have one month to send the application documents by regular mail to the Consulate that attended your application. The envelope must include the original documents, which were scanned and uploaded to the Virtual Consulate, including the Visa Application form signed in original, the Visa Authorization, and the Visa Grant.
  • Failure to comply with this step will result in the automatic annulment of the visa.
  • Once the original documents have been received, they will be reviewed. If there are any irregularities found or any document is missing, it will result in the automatic annulment of the visa.
