BeachLife and adventure in El Guabo

We live in the country of the four worlds and adventure calls from every corner. We are committed to go back to each of its destinations when the emergency passes on. Fall in love with Ecuador again through our content and take the time to plan your next trip in advance.

Today we’ll go to El Guabo, located in the north of El Oro province, a unique destination with many touristic attractions that range from the beaches and estuaries, to the subtropical forest and waterfalls in the mountain side; a wide variety of activities altogether in one place.

How to get there?

11 miles from Machala, the capital city of El Oro, sets the El Guabo canton. You can also reach this destination by air, from Quito or Guayaquil to the Santa Rosa Airport, from where a taxi ride will take 20 minutes to reach El Guabo.

Here are some activities to enjoy:

Manuel's waterfall

Only 30 minutes from El Guabo’s center at the 10th km of the El Guabo – Guayaquil road, you’ll spot and enjoy 8 splendid waterfalls, making their way down the tropical forest. The warm climate is ideal for guided walks, which connect you with nature and the variety of flora and fauna around.

For those who enjoy adventure modalities, El Guabo has many rivers with ideal flow levels for canyoning. You can regain some energy after all this fun trying some typical food of the area such as: “seco de pollo”, fried pork and fried tilapia.

San Miguel de Brasil and San Jacinto Spas

Cool off in the Río Bonito parish at the San Miguel de Brasil spa, located in the Community that bares the same name. You can visit the San Jacinto spa as well, located in the Chimborazo Community.

Crystal clear and calm waters allow travelers to relax in its natural pools and try after the wide range of dishes prepared with local organic goods and featured on traditional recipes.

Bajo Alto beach

It is one of the most popular seaside resorts in El Oro, it is located 40 minutes from the cantonal head town, on the road to Borbones. This beautiful beach invites you to enjoy pleasant afternoons of relaxation in its refreshing mineral waters.

In addition, take long walks along its boardwalk, feel the sea breeze and enjoy its exquisite seafood based cuisine. The attention is warm and welcoming. In Summer and many seasons outdoors events are carry out to entertain visitors.

La puntilla beach

It can be reached out by two entrances, the first one is the river route from the Tendales River that allows you to spot a great variety of fauna, especially the pink heron, an endemic species. If your lucky you might see dolphins, which show up around 06:00 and 12:00 to feed. A few meters away you’ll find the Bird’s Island, where several species live and nest.

Access is only granted when the tide is low on a 50-minute tour to observe the mangrove reserves and the search of shells and crabs.

Nightlife in El Guabo

At night you can take a walk at the fully illuminated central park to see the San Juan Bautista Church, the Parque de la Madre with its cultural center Carlos Montero Campoverde and finally walk along the Sucre and Army avenues with a vibrant nightlife and food and entertainment accommodation.

Fall in love with El Guabo. Go ahead, put it on the list of destinations to visit in Ecuador.
